UP system-wide College Librarians participated in the first “Librarians’ Summit” held on 3-4 October 2018 at the Training Center for Tropical Resources and Ecosystems Sustainability (TREES), UPLB College of Forestry and Natural Resources.
The summit served as an avenue to discuss library issues concerning User Services and Online Resources, Technical & Information Technology Services, and Administrative & Human Resource Development among component units. It also served as a prelude on the part of the Librarians to their participation in the upcoming 2nd UP Systemwide Research, Extension and Professional Staff (REPS) Conference to be held on 18-19 October 2018 at UP Diliman.
Present to grace the event were Dr. Fernando C. Sanchez, Jr., UPLB Chancellor; Dr. Maria Cynthia Rose Banzon-Bautista, UP System Vice President for Academic Affairs; and Dr. Patricia B. Arinto, UP System Faculty Regent.
Dr. Richard P. Burgos, DOST-STII Director shared his insights on the opportunities and challenges concerning the role of Academic Libraries in research. In addition, Dr. Portia G. Lapitan, UPLB Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, delivered a message on the support of Libraries given to the academe.
Output of the summit was a consensus of proposals that aims to address the issues, concerns and challenges facing library services and personnel.
Ms. Concepcion DL. Saul, UPLB University Librarian, delivered the closing remarks. She thanked the 2018 Librarians’ Summit Committee members chaired by Ms. Mary Ann M. Ingua for organizing the event, and the participants from the different UP component units for coming to UPLB and participating in the summit. (NGR)
